Your company already pays for Microsoft 365 Copilot. This programme makes the licence earn its keep.

Most staff use Copilot the way they used the first chatbots: a question, a paragraph, close the window. After three days with me they will have briefed it properly, cleared a week of email, turned rough notes into a report and the report into a deck, caught up on a meeting they missed, and built a small agent of their own.

The name is the syllabus, seven letters for the seven things we cover.

  • PPowerPoint. Decks built from a finished report.
  • OOutlook. Long threads summarised, replies drafted.
  • WWord. Reports built from several files at once.
  • EExcel. Analysis and formula columns from plain English.
  • RRecap in Teams. The meeting you missed, and who owes what.
  • EExtend. Your first Copilot agent, grounded on documents you choose.
  • DDialogue. Copilot Chat, where we start.

We start with Dialogue because a good brief is the whole game. From there the work chains: an email thread becomes a Word report, the figures come from Excel, and the report builds the deck.

Before you book

Every laptop in the room needs the paid Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on. Since April 2026 there are three tiers, and a Copilot button in the ribbon no longer proves you hold the paid one. The label under your name on the Microsoft 365 home page does. Tell me what it says and I will tell you where you stand. If the licence is not there yet, Work Smarter with AI teaches the same habits on free tools.

Three days is the full programme. Shorter cuts drop whole modules rather than rushing them. Do get in touch.

What we cover

The bullets under each module are what actually happens in the room.

Brief it properly

  • Dialogue - Copilot Chat, Work IQ and the Prompting Foundations

    • The RCR framework, Role, Context and Request, with the 5W1H checklist that fills the context in.
    • Where an answer came from: the public web, or the mail, files and meetings your own account can already open through Work IQ.
    • The privacy rules staff can repeat back, and the interview loop that turns a half-formed request into a prompt worth saving for the team.

Mail, reports, spreadsheets, decks

  • Copilot in Microsoft Outlook

    • Summarising a fourteen-message thread and landing on the message where the deadline was buried.
    • Drafting a reply from a one-line instruction, turning the tone and length dials, and running what you wrote past Coaching before you send it.

  • Copilot in Microsoft Word

    • Briefing Copilot inside Word against several files at once: the email thread, a page of rough meeting notes, and last quarter's report as the shape to copy.
    • Rewriting one selected section without disturbing the rest of the document, then reading the draft back against the sources.
    • Keeping the finished structure as a skeleton, so next month's report starts from the headings rather than a blank page.

  • Copilot in Microsoft Excel

    • The rule that decides whether Copilot is any use here: the data has to be a proper table first.
    • Writing formula columns from a plain English instruction, and reading the formula before you accept it.
    • Cleaning an exported file where rows repeat, one outlet is spelled four ways and the sales figures are stored as text.

  • Copilot in Microsoft PowerPoint

    • Generating the deck from the finished Word report, inside your own corporate template, which is the path that actually works.
    • Dropping in the real Excel chart instead of a picture of one, and writing speaker notes a slide at a time.
    • Editing by naming the slide, in the manner of "only change slide 8", then running the human pass before the deck leaves the building.

Meetings and your first agent

  • Recap - Copilot in Microsoft Teams Meetings

    • Catching up on a meeting you missed, or joined twenty minutes late, without watching the recording.
    • Asking a finished meeting direct questions: what was decided, where people disagreed, and what was left open.
    • Repairing the action items it hands back, so each one carries a named owner and a date.

  • Extend - Your First Copilot Agent

    • The two-question test that separates an agent from a saved prompt: how many people ask, and how often the documents behind the answer change.
    • Building a helpdesk agent in Copilot Agent Builder on a folder of maintenance procedures, and telling it to say "I do not know" rather than invent.
    • Handing it to a colleague who never sees the instructions, then fixing whatever their first question breaks.

Your own work, rebuilt

  • Capstone - Transforming Your Own Workflow

    • Placing your recurring work on the Effort and Frequency grid, then taking the task in the top right corner.
    • Rebuilding it end to end with the trainer at your shoulder, and showing the room the old way, the new way and the hours saved.
